Each year several of our Scouts come out for Restore Hope Ministries and volunteer service hours for a good cause.
This year the Scouts volunteered to help distribute Thanksgiving Meals. Thank you restore Hope for letting the Scouts of Troop 975 help in your efforts to restore hope to those in need!
975 Annual Restore Hope Thanksgiving Service Project: Turkey & Food Basket Distribution
9-7-5ers departed the Central Church at 8:00 am Wednesday, November 27th for Restore Hope to serve our neighbors in need by being helpful, friendly, courteous, kind and cheerful. This year was special because scouts got a chance to greet, meet and interact with the families and recipients of the food baskets and turkeys. Various duties included unboxing frozen turkeys and bagging them with potatoes, running food baskets from staging area to distribution area, taking tickets and paperwork from clients, carrying heavy sacks and loading them into vehicles in parking lots, breaking down boxes, dumpster runs and parking lot traffic and crowd control.
The flowing crowd was lined up outside when we arrived and stretched far down the road, all parking lots in the area were full as well. Doors opened at 9:30 am so there was some prep work that had to be done. Folks throughout the morning could be heard saying, "Thank you Boy Scouts!", "We appreciate you!" and "God Bless!" It was a privilege for the scouts to assist those in need and less fortunate which included, entire families, single mothers with small children, the disabled and the unemployed. Restore Hope provided 2000 food baskets and turkeys to those in need this year, which was the highest number for demand they have ever needed to meet. 16 scouts who stayed from beginning to end earned 4 service hours. Pastor Larry and Sandy Milner said they could not have done it this year without the troop and appreciated our food donation as well. We all have a lot to be thankful for. Thank you for taking time out before Thanksgiving to provide servant leadership in your community!
2009 "Project School Supplies"
Every month Restore Hope Ministries serves hundreds of low-income and troubled families. Many of the families have school age children and most of them will begin school this fall without the supplies they need. This is a great opportunity to extend God's love and care by offering them the supplies necessary to begin school equipped to learn. Providing school supplies is an important part of Restore Hope Ministries' on-going efforts to assist families in financial need. Through the generous support of many the 2008 School Supply Drive was able to assist 2,495 students. Every student was given a full set of supplies to begin school prepared to learn!
